How to get 23.976 Hz on a LG 34UC88

After i succesfully expanded the 34UC88 FreeSync range to 35-75 Hz, i started optimizing movies experience. I'm pretty sure that if you care about image quality, you're using MPC-HC with madVR to watch your video files. If you're not, please trust me, it's time to get in touch with those pieces of software. You can find a great guide here.

One of the main culprit of PCs monitor is that they usually doesn't support 24p or in other words a refresh rate of 24 Hz (23.976 Hz) that is recommended for watching movies (more on this topic). I was able to add the 24p mode to my 34UC88 and i can tell you that now my watch experience is finally complete.

To add the 24p mode, you don't need additional software but just the latest Crimson driver (tested on 17.3.3).

  1. Open AMD Radeon Settings
  2. Click on Preferences and then on Radeon Additional Settings
  3. Radeon Additional settings
  4. On the left side, click on your monitor (mine was named My Digital Flat-Panels) and then on Custom Resolutions (Digital Flat Panel).
  5. Click on the New button and fill all the fields as in the image below.

When done, click on Verify and if your panel can handle the refresh rate you will see a new popup. Click on Apply and you're done. To use the 24p mode you can alternatively:
  • Go to the screen settings and select the 24 Hz refresh rate
  • Add in madVR display modes 3440x1440p24
