Meet Windows Firewall Notifier, the best "firewall" for Windows.

Image
I've always been a Windows user and i've always struggled with security stuff figuring out what was the best security suite and/or the best combination of antivirus and firewall. I've tried a lot of different software (e.g. Kaspersky, Avira, Bitdefender, etc) but no one completely satisfied me in terms of performances, UI and functionalities and moreover the greatest were paid. However in the last year Windows Defender changed a lot and became much better as the built-in Windows Firewall did. I'm actually using Defender as main antivirus but Windows Firewall still lacks a user friendly interface and an interactive mode that let the user choose wether to allow internet access to specific apps or not. I recently met WFN aka Windows Firewall Notifier that perfectly fill the gap and let you use Windows built-in firewall properly.

How to get 23.976 Hz on a LG 34UC88

Image
After i succesfully expanded the 34UC88 FreeSync range to 35-75 Hz, i started optimizing movies experience. I'm pretty sure that if you care about image quality, you're using MPC-HC with madVR to watch your video files. If you're not, please trust me, it's time to get in touch with those pieces of software. You can find a great guide here . One of the main culprit of PCs monitor is that they usually doesn't support 24p or in other words a refresh rate of 24 Hz (23.976 Hz) that is recommended for watching movies ( more on this topic ). I was able to add the 24p mode to my 34UC88 and i can tell you that now my watch experience is finally complete .

Overclock LG 34UC88 to increase FreeSync range

Image
At the beginning of Janaury i finally  ascended  and bought an LG 34UC88 Ultrawide 3440x1400. The 21:9 format is simply stunning for productivity, gaming and movies. It also supports  AMD FreeSync technology  that basically synchronise the panel's refresh rate to the frame rate computed by the GPU to get rid of stutters and tears (i won't go deep on this topic, feel free to Google it). The default range for FreeSync on this panel is 55-75 Hz. It's quite narrow. In order to effectively use FreeSync your GPU have to produce between 55-75 FPS otherwise it will fall back to VSYNC on/off mechanism. However, you can overclock your monitor in order to achieve a wider frequency range so that even if your GPU produces less than 55 FPS you can still use FreeSync and avoid stutters and tears.
